Reading Resources for Home Learning

At CMCCS, we believe learning never stops — whether in the classroom or at home. These resources help students in Grades K–5 continue growing as confident, curious readers. Each section below includes grade-appropriate sites, digital books, and reading tips families can use anytime.

📚 Reading Resources for Home Learning

While CMCCS remains committed to in-person instruction, there may be circumstances that require temporary remote learning to ensure the safety and continuity of student education. Situations such as severe weather, public health concerns, or building emergencies may make it necessary to shift to online instruction. During these times, our teachers will continue to provide high-quality, structured lessons and ongoing communication to support students and families learning from home.

Kindergarten – 1st Grade

Focus: Building early literacy, phonics, and a love of books.

Tip: Read with your child every day. Take turns reading pages and discuss what’s happening in the pictures.

2nd – 3rd Grade

Focus: Expanding comprehension and fluency.

Tip: Ask your child to retell stories in their own words. Discuss lessons and character choices.

4th – 5th Grade

Focus: Strengthening critical thinking and text analysis.

Tip: Have your child summarize one article or story each week and share it aloud.

Reading Tips for Parents

  • Read daily for at least 10–20 minutes.
  • Let your child choose some of the books to build motivation.
  • Ask open-ended questions (“What might happen next?” “How did this story make you feel?”).
  • Celebrate progress — small steps count!
  • Model reading — show them that you read for enjoyment, too.
